Fisheries in the east of England, in the County of Suffolk, are continuing to suffer from carp theft.
As reported by the East Anglian Times, over £4000 worth of fish has been stolen in Melton by thieves. Carp are valuable assets to fisheries, with the average 20lb carp valued at over £600, 10lb carp valued at over £100 and heavier fish at higher prices.
Understandably, fishery managers are furious about the levels of carp theft across the Suffolk area, with some reporting that crooks are breaking through electric gates to nab fish for food.
Carp thieving has been commonly reported in Suffolk, with some fisheries hiring security staff to protect their properties. Illegal fishing is also rife in the county, especially in rivers.
Consequently, it's important that fishery managers and the general public work with organisations such as the Environment Agency and the Police to stop these illegal activities.
